Communication

Contextualized, effective communication of biblical and theological truth by a variety of means for personal and corporate transformation.

Because I want to communicate effectively with ministry leaders

nationwide as well as leaders in the local church, I will…

Goal:

Begin work on a podcast that will explain and expound on my children’s

ministry curriculum and will encourage children’s ministry leaders in their work.

Strategies:

  1. I will organize my curriculum into monthly categories that will provide good subject matter for the podcast.

  2. I will set up podcast equipment in my office and learn how to use it.

  3. I will listen to my content and invite others to give feedback.

Resources:

  1. Read Daniel Larson and Jake Fielding’s Podcasting Made Simple.

  2. Invite my children’s ministry colab group to listen to the podcast and give feedback.

  3. Listen to “Simple KidMin” and “Magical Moments of Ministry” podcasts to develop ideas and strategies for effective podcasting.

Measurements:

  1. By the end of December, I will have produced and published four podcast episodes.

  2. By the end of my internship, I will have developed a timeline plan for monthly episodes that will cover the entire three-year curriculum cycle.

Results

  • For my competence in communication, I am submitting two podcast episodes that demonstrate my growth in producing and organizing podcasts. Through this process, I learned to edit introduction and exit music. I also made adjustments to the sound equipment to allow for better sound quality. Additionally, the development of the podcast episodes led me toward a more unit-centered lesson plan for my curriculum, resulting in a more organized, easier-to-follow format. Through this experience, I learned to be a better host and how to ask better questions.

  • As I developed and demonstrated communication, I have learned that starting a podcast in which I have regular guests requires extra organization and planning. It is easy enough for me to find time to record an episode, but I found that coordinating a time with guest hosts is much more challenging. I also learned that the production of the podcast often takes considerably longer than recording the episode. While I did not record as many episodes as I had hoped, I gained valuable experience that I will use to continue to expand my episode library.

  • As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop my communication skills by recording more episodes and working with more people to record varied content. I will continue to improve my scheduling so that I can accommodate others' calendars and be available to work when they are. I will also remember to be focused throughout the episode to ensure I am communicating the most essential ideas from the lessons in that unit rather than getting bogged down in the details or focusing too much on the content of one or two individual lessons.
