Children’s Ministry Emphasis
Master of Arts in Christian Education
Emphasis: Children’s Minsitry
MA in Christian Education
Students completing this ministry concentration should be able to create, implement, lead, and evaluate a local church or parachurch ministry to children, including partnering with volunteers, staff, and parents to effectively disciple children
Reflections
For my competence in MACE, I am submitting additional artifacts that demonstrate my ability to engage children in a fun but instructive learning environment. I use children’s interests to draw them into the subject matter and help them connect with what is being taught. I worked with several other classmates to develop the lesson plan, showing that I can be a team player and apply the ideas and opinions of others to my work to make it even better.
I am also submitting a curriculum evaluation demonstrating my ability to think critically about what is being taught and how. My specialty in small church ministry shows through as I look at the various curricula from the standpoint of a church with a lower budget and fewer people and classes.
Learning Reflections:
As I developed and demonstrated academic proficiency in various areas of my degree and ministry experience, I have learned that while God uses ministries of all shapes and sizes to reach people, he has placed a burden on my heart for smaller churches. He showed me that he can use me to provide resources and advice that is specially tailored to churches that are often ignored when curriculum and ministry books are being written.
I have also learned to be a better teacher. While writing has always been where I am most comfortable, I have had the opportunity to teach to a wider variety of children and improve my skills in teaching large groups.
Lifelong Development
As a result of the academic experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in MACE by connecting with small churches and using my giftings to provide resources and support to improve their ministries. I will also continue to work to become a better teacher in various situations. I will continue to develop and improve my curriculum so that it can be used by ministries outside of my church. And I will seek out other people who have a passion for small church ministries to work with them in an effort to advance the kingdom of God using the unique strengths from which small churches can benefit.
